Valentine's Day by Caldas da Rainha - Lover´s Guide

Ceramics Museum at Caldas da Rainha

Enjoy and live your Valentine's Day by Caldas da Rainha, making a program full of emotions and experiences that you will not soon forget.

You can choose to book a guided tour with us, and we will do everything to get to know this city better, which has no less than 500 years linked to thermalism and the art of “welcoming”.

Between generalist guided tours that will allow you to get to know the places that Caldenses (or “warm waters) travel in their daily lives, such as Praça da Fruta, which is the only open market that operates 365 days a year in Portugal to the oldest thermal hospital in the world!

If you are looking for something more specific, we have other guided tours such as Caldas Industrial where you can see a ceramic factory in full operation, going through all stages of the product cycle such as painting ...

But if this is not your idea, you can always go on a journey, taking the initiative and the reigns of destiny by the lands of Rainha Dona Leonor. Here are some tips on how you can spend your unforgettable day between what you can do and what you should visit...

Tips for visiting the main points of the city

Start the day at Praça da Fruta, one of the icons of the city, but be careful with the hours because the market only works until 3 pm (the sellers usually start to fix it earlier). Then go down Rua da Liberdade right to Parque D. Carlos I. Arriving at the park, walk along its wide avenues and enter the José Malhoa Museum, here you will find Bordalo Pinheiro's most emblematic work - A Paixão de Cristo.

After the José Malhoa Museum, it passes through the Park Pavilions, another icon of the city, which despite its degradation continues to impose itself facing the park's lake every day. The Glass Sky is right next door, if it is open enter, and watch the wrought iron dragons that support the light.

When you leave Céu de Vidro, you will discover the Caldas da Rainha Thermal Hospital, also imposing, waiting for your visit. This is considered the 1st Thermal Hospital in the world and was founded in 1484. The consideration derives from having been the 1st to use water as a treatment combined with the permanent presence of a doctor.

Missing visits to the Nossa Senhora do Pópulo Church (just behind the Thermal Hospital) is the Bordalo Pinheiro store, and the other museums you can find here.

By the sands of the Silver Coast

After lunch, we invite you to visit Foz do Arelho. This quiet coastal town is less than 10km from Caldas and has a unique beauty like the Óbidos Lagoon, which is considered the most extensive coastal lagoon system on the Portuguese coast, and the entry card for your visit.

You can leave the car at the edge of the lagoon and take a walk, following the trail that connects the Óbidos Lagoon to the beach. Of course, we advise you to do so, not only because of the stunning landscape but you will also get to know the Penedo Furado, the old pier and watch the boats anchored along the lagoon.

At night, you can choose between seafood or fresh fish in one of the restaurants in the village or return to the city, choosing something more modern or traditional (find suggestions here!).

You can always end your night watching a concert at the Cultural and Congress Center of Caldas da Rainha.

We hope you enjoyed our tips, and whenever you need us we are here to let you know the best that the locals have to offer, thus making your experience “unique”!
