Chafariz das Cinco Bicas in Caldas da Rainha
The Chafariz das Cinco Bicas is one of three fountains built in Caldas da Rainha when King João V, himself a user of the local waters, renewed the town’s water supply.
His visit in the early 18th century also led to the renovation of the Thermal Hospital.
The king also had an aqueduct built, reaching the present-day fountain, to bring water to the town. Few traces of it remain, in the southern part of the Mata Rainha D. Leonor.
The three fountains have been listed as Properties of Public Interest since 1982.
