What to see and do in Alvorninha
With around four thousand inhabitants, Alvorninha is eleven kilometers from Caldas da Rainha. This parish has a strong agricultural nature and it was precisely here that the first agricultural school in the country was founded.
Among many other things, you can visit the Alvorninha parish church and see its Manueline portal as a set of tiles that shows the visit of our first king - D. Afonso Henriques.
It was the seat of the municipality from 1210 to 1836, thus showing its importance in the regional context.
Mercado de Santana
One of the largest street markets in Portugal. Santana market can be visited every Sunday.
Moinho de Madeira das Boisias
This monument is open to the public every first Sunday of each month.
Ponte Romana
This Roman bridge can be visited at the site of Feteira!
Barragem de Alvorninha
Caldas da Rainha has a very visible agricultural culture and the Alvorninha dam is an excellent example.
Igreja Matriz de Alvorninha
Dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Visitação, this church dates from the XVI century and one of the highlights is its Manueline portal ornamented with plant motifs and the armillary sphere at its top.
Capela do N. SR. da Misericórdia
Church in the mannerist architectural style of the XVIII century, consisting of a single nave, a single chapel and a high choir.
