About the Tour
Alcobaça Monastery is where eternal love is celebrated: Pedro and Inês, Portugal’s own “Romeo and Juliet”, have rested here for centuries in two exquisite 14th-century tombs. Pedro’s lover was murdered for political reasons; once king, he took his revenge and, legend says, crowned Inês queen after her death. The monastery was also one of Europe’s great Cistercian centres, founded under Bernard of Clairvaux.
Batalha Monastery (14th to 15th century) was built to celebrate the Portuguese victory at Aljubarrota in 1385 and became a symbol of independence. You’ll see the Royal Pantheon of King João I and English-born Queen Philippa of Lancaster, the colourful stained glass and the roofless Unfinished Chapels.

No. Entrance tickets are bought on site and your guide will help you with the process.

Yes. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

What is the cancellation policy?
Free cancellation up to 24 hours in advance. After that, the tour can be rescheduled or turned into a voucher valid for 365 days. Tours cancelled due to weather are fully refunded. No-shows are not refunded.
