Batalha Monastery: Private Tour – The Batalha Monastery (14th century) is a truly unique masterpiece of European architecture (late Portuguese Gothic and Manueline style). You can see the wonderful royal pantheon, the resting place of King João I and Queen Filipa de Lencastre, born in England, and several other members of the royal family. Among them, King João II and Prince Henry the Navigator, two protagonists of the Portuguese Discoveries around the world, which paved the way for Portugal to become the first global empire.
The Route:
We’ll start at the royal pantheon, where we’ll visit the tombs of King João I, founder of the Avis dynasty, and his wife Queen Filipa de Lencastre, as well as the tombs of their children, including Henry the Navigator.
Afterwards, we’ll visit the church, passing through the interim cloisters and ending on a high note in the majestic Imperfect Chapels.
